Gerry Houlihan is a licensed real estate broker with the commercial division of Houlihan & O’Malley Real Estate Services. He specializes in leasing and selling restaurant, commercial, and retail properties.
Mr. Houlihan graduated from Manhattan College in New York in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
In 1983, Mr. Houlihan, and his wife, Maureen, took ownership of Luigi’s Trattoria in Eastchester, NY. In 1993, after extensive remodeling and a menu redesign, Luigi’s was renamed Daniel’s Restaurant and Caterers. During the eighteen year course of the restaurant, the Houlihans consistently grew the business through expansion, relocation, and new business efforts.
During Mr. Houlihan’s ownership of Daniel’s Restaurant, he became a proud member of the Westchester-Rockland Chapter of the New York State Restaurant Association (NYSRA). In 1998, he was appointed to the Board of the NYSRA during which time he served as Chairman for the Legislative Committee. As Chairman, Mr. Houlihan was a key supporter in the establishment of the Association’s Educational Foundation and the Foundation’s ProStart program, which offers educational and scholarship opportunities to high school students interested in pursuing careers in the restaurant and hospitality industries.
In 2000, after serving several terms as a Chapter Board Member, he was elected President of the Westchester-Rockland Chapter of the NYSRA. During his tenure, Mr. Houlihan focused on leading initiatives designed to educate small restaurant owners about the need for cost-controls and efficiencies in small businesses. Additionally, he championed legislative agendas designed to benefit small business owners, continued to foster the Chapter’s relationship with the Red Cross, and sought greater visibility for the Chapter through increased community involvement. Mr. Houlihan was also actively involved in the local community as a Board Member of the Eastchester/Tuckahoe Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Houlihan sold his restaurant business in October 2001.
Shortly after, Mr. Houlihan, drawing on his expertise in the restaurant industry, founded Houlihan Business Brokers, a commercial brokering business focusing on the acquisition and sale of restaurant and food-related businesses. The following year, he acquired his real estate license and began working in conjunction with the Commercial Division of Houlihan & O’Malley Real Estate Services in leasing and commercial real estate sales.
In 2003, once again drawing on his extensive industry background, Mr. Houlihan became the Chief Financial Officer, and a managing partner, of Rising Dough Enterprises, which operates eight Dunkin’ Donuts stores in Westchester County and the Bronx.
During this time, Mr. Houlihan also joined the International Business Brokers Association. In 2006, after completing an extensive set of classes and exams, he became a Certified Business Intermediary.
Since joining Houlihan & O’Malley, Mr. Houlihan has been involved in numerous large-scale transactions of commercial properties and has represented international franchising clients, including Dunkin Donuts, Fitness Together and Johnny Rockets.
Mr. Houlihan is a current member of the New York Association of Business Brokers, the International Business Brokers Association, the Westchester County Board of Realtors, the New York State Association of Realtors, and the National Association of Realtors.
